[MEMORY]
ENB now has memory management features added that can significantly reduce CTDs caused by hitting Skyrim's memory limit (~3.1GB). These features are referred to as, ENBoost. These parameters will need to be changed depending on the hardware within individual systems. ENBoost features depend heavily on these values to work correctly. Setting them incorrectly could result in users experiencing additional issues in-game. When running Skyrim with ENB enabled it is highly recommended to close any unnecessary programs running in the background to free up system resources for ENBoost use.
ExpandSystemMemoryX64
Warning:It has been reported that this feature can conflict with 'Sheson's Memory Patch 3.0' (now included with SKSE) by causing Skyrim to crash if the memory patch fix is used to increase Skyrim's initial heap allocation (
Block 1
or DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB
in skse.ini) higher than 512 in Sheson's Memory Patch or 768MB in SKSE. Therefore, if using the Sheson Memory Patch fix (either standalone or with SKSE), it is recommended to set ExpandSystemMemoryX64
to false.- While this warning does not apply to everyone under all circumstances (me for example, running
DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768
), credible testing here on STEP supports the notion that settingEnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=true
can contribute to Skyrim CTD at startup when using sheson's memory patch. ~z929669Talk 23:19, January 17, 2015 (EST)
- While this warning does not apply to everyone under all circumstances (me for example, running
When set to true, this parameter changes some of Skyrim's memory allocation code to cache data at the 'top' of Skyrim's memory space (Windows default caches to bottom of memory space). According to Boris, this can reduce memory fragmentation and make better use of Skyrim's available memory, especially when running on 64-bit Windows; Vista or newer. Note:' for this parameter to work,
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage
must be set to true and EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks
must be set to false (see below). Please read these posts before posting support questions in the forums about this parameter! Don't be lazy!

More of an explanation by Boris can be found here and by keithinhanoi here and here.
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage
This parameter will enable the ENBoost features to dramatically reduce CTDs and other issues caused from reaching Skyrim's memory limit. It does this by launching the enbhost.exe process to handle dynamic memory allocations. It is highly recommended to enable and keep this feature enabled! For this feature to work properly, users should have a minimum of 4GB system RAM. ENBoost is able to initialize multiple instances of the enbhost process, each able to use up to 4GB of system RAM up to a maximum of 128GB (capped by the kilobyte value set in
VideoMemorySizeMb
below. Set to true if ExpandSystemMemoryX64
is enabled (see above).DisableDriverMemoryManager
This was mainly implemented as a fix for AMD video card users; however, it can also be useful for others. The parameter forces the ENBSeries driver libraries to manage video memory resources for cached textures (rather than the video drivers) and will ignore more of the errors reported by the video drivers. When enabled this parameter can cause lower than optimal performance and/or long pauses. If experiencing CTDs even while ENBoost features are enabled, users can try enabling this parameter to see if it resolves (helps to confirm video driver issues); otherwise, it is best to leave it disabled (false).
DisablePreloadToVRAM
Routinely running Skyrim with this enabled is not recommended. When enabled this parameter can give faster cell-load times as geometry/textures are not loaded into video memory until they are visible. This may cause stuttering since more data must be dynamically loaded into memory during gameplay as the PC looks and moves around. Enabling this parameter could potentially help load a save game which fails to load otherwise. If this works, users are encouraged to go to a small interior, save the game, and then disable this again before trying to load the problem savegame. If experiencing extended cell load times, before enabling this feature, it is recommended to first try using the 'free VRAM' key (see
[INPUT]
section) to clean video memory before entering a new location or fast traveling.EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks
Enabling this parameter is generally not safe. This is a workaround for users experiencing large amount of stuttering, typically on systems with large amount of VRAM (4GB+). When enabled, it does not use memory reallocation, compression, or enbhost.exe and will only work when
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage
is also enabled. A known bug is that Alt+tab will not work in fullscreen when this is enabled. Set to false if ExpandSystemMemoryX64
is enabled (see above).ReservedMemorySizeMb
This parameter sets the size of a buffer used for swapping geometry and textures between VRAM and system memory. The buffer will be set in VRAM and this portion of VRAM will not be used for ENBoost's dynamic memory allocation; however, it will also be duplicated in the system memory used by TESV.exe as well. This means that increasing this parameter's value will result in equal increases in both VRAM and system RAM usage. The values here are measured in megabytes. For video cards with 1GB or more VRAM, start with 128 as a baseline. If stuttering persists, increase the value in increments of 128 ( 256, 384, 512, etc ) until the stuttering has ceased or is as minimal as possible with the lowest possible value. The maximum value that can be used is 1024, but be aware that whatever value is used is how much VRAM will be reserved for the swap space. This is the reason the lowest value possible without experiencing issues is recommended. Because of this parameter being system dependent, users will need to test different values to find the one which works best for their specific setup.
VideoMemorySizeMb
This sets the total memory that will be used for the ENBoost dynamic memory allocation. All available VRAM, except for the amount set with
ReservedMemorySizeMb
, will be used first, and if VideoMemorySizeMb
is set to a value higher than total VRAM of the user's videocard, then ENBoost will use system RAM, if necessary, by running instances of enbhost.exe.Download Boris's VRamSizeTest tool, run
VRamSizeDX9.exe
, and note the number it shows after 'Video memory available.' Then, if you are running Windows 7, subtract 170 from that number; if you are running Windows 8/8.1, use the number provided by the tool; and if you are running Windows 10, subtract 350 from that number. Use the result as the variable here. (Example 1: If VRamSizeDX9.exe shows 10240, and you're running Windows 7, you should subtract 170 to get 10070. Example 2: If VRamSizeDX9.exe shows 4064, and you're running Windows 8, you should use 4064. Example 3: If VRamSizeDX9.exe shows 11168, and you're running Windows 10, you should subtract 350 to get 10818.) For more information, please refer to this post. Notice:Windows 8/8.1 users: Microsoft has, unintentionally, introduced a memory limit for DirectX 9 games/software. This limit is 4GBs (4096) and there is nothing which can be done to circumvent this limit. For users seeing the VRamSizeTest tool reporting 4064 or similar, this is not a mistake. This is actually the limit for the OS in use and the maximum value you can set the VideoMemorySizeMb to. This bug was fixed for Windows 10 in the 2017 Fall Creator's Update, but still affects Windows 8/8.1.
EnableCompression
Enables/disables memory compression. It is disabled by default. Disabling memory compression can reduce stutter, but at the cost of more RAM usage. For this reason, it is generally only recommended to be disabled on systems with more than 2GB VRAM. Any system that is already nearing its VRAM limit should leave this parameter enabled or it could do more harm than good.
AutodetectVideoMemorySize
If enabled, this feature will attempt to detect a system's shared video memory and automatically set the
VideoMemorySizeMb
parameter for a user. Any value placed in the VideoMemorySizeMb
above will simply be ignored. This feature works for some users and for other users it'll give the wrong values which are usually too high. Users can try this feature; however, disabling it and setting the VideoMemorySizeMb
parameter manually to fine tune the ENBoost settings is currently the recommended method.Retrieved from 'https://wiki.step-project.com/index.php?title=Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory&oldid=97587'
Since the release of Fallout 4 is imminent and I’ve already pwned Fallout Shelter, I’m getting myself into a post-apocalyptic mindset by replaying Fallout: New Vegas for the first time in 5 years! Obviously, I had to mod the game for the graphics to be enjoyable by my 2015 eyeball standards. Here’s a guide on how to get the most next-gen-est Fallout: New Vegas game ever!
All of these mods can be installed with Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) unless otherwise noted. Contrary to popular belief, you do NOT need to download Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM or FOMOD).

Recommended Character & Weapon Mods

Recommended Environment Mods
Recommended Character & Weapon Mods
Required Mods (install in this order):
NVSE – Don’t ask what it is. Just install it, and install it FIRST – almost every mod requires it in order to work. It’s like a keystone species in nature, everything in the Fallout ecosystem depends on it to survive! You cannot install this mod NMM – you must manually copy the unzipped files into your game folder.
ENB – Installing an ENB is not required for the rest of the mods to work, but it IS required if you want a hella next-gen looking game. You cannot install this mod by NMM – you must manually copy the unzipped files into your game folder.
4GB Fallout New Vegas Updated – You will need this to run 4k HD textures in your game. Install this mod after you’ve installed NVSE and ENB – you will be launching your game with this launcher, NOT the original .exe nor the nvse.exe launcher. You cannot install this mod by NMM – you must manually copy the unzipped files into your game folder.
In order for the ENB to work, you’ll have to right click the 4GB launcher icon and where you see “C:GamesFallout New VegasFNV4GB.exe” (or whatever directory your game is located) you need to add “ –laaexe .FalloutNV4GB.exe” at the end. So, it should look like this when you’re done:
C:GamesFallout New VegasFNV4GB.exe –laaexe .FalloutNV4GB.exe
If you a dirty, thieving pirate (no judgment! hehe) with a cracked version of Fallout: New Vegas, you won’t be able to use the 4GB mod on Nexus unless you do this:
You need to trick the 4GB Fallout mod into thinking it is legit – otherwise, you’ll just get the error message “’Error – Original exe modified -> Executable headers failed to validate.” The fix is super easy – just download the PEChecksum program, drag and drop your “FalloutNV.exe” file over PEChecksum.exe to modify the file, and then drag and drop your “FalloutNVLauncher.exe” file over PEChecksum.exe to do the same to the launcher. When you’re done, you will be able to properly launch your game from the FNV4GB.exe launcher!
Or, alternatively, skip the 4GB mod entirely and just use this 4gb patch program to alter your existing executable.
Highly Recommended Mods:
Rudy ENB – this is my favorite ENB preset for Fallout: New Vegas. While the original looks beautiful, it’s even better with a modified depth of field setting. I get 60 FPS with this ENB so it probably won’t kill your computer. You cannot install this mod by NMM – you must manually copy the unzipped files into your game folder.
New Vegas Stutter Remover – you’ll need this mod to avoid the weird lag that Fallout: NV has when modding.
New Vegas Anti Crash (NVAC) – literally exactly what it sounds like. If you want your game to crash less, use it.
NMC’s Texture Pack for New Vegas – adds HD textures to the game but only for large objects (roads, vehicles, trees, buildings, etc.) … which means that bottles, signs, posters, outfits are still woefully un-HD, sigh. I prefer these textures to the Ojo Bueno ones.
MGs Neat Clutter Retextures – this adds HD textures for all the smaller objects that NMC’s misses!
Rudy Enb New Vegas
Essential Visual Enhancements – this gives critical things like energy weapons a visual makeover.
Enhanced Blood Textures – exactly what it sounds like.
Wasteland Flora Overhaul – moar tree, moar grass, moar flora.
oHud (One Hud) – this lets you control you HUD elements and is pretty much required for taking clean screenshots.
Recommended Environment Mods:
NVInteriors Project – this mod adds some more interesting places to explore across the wasteland.
Project Ultimatum – this mod gives NPCs a much more realistic and interesting reaction to you. NPCs and your character have better head tracking, and your followers actually unholster their guns when you do!
Repopulated Wasteland – surely there are more than a hundred people left in the Mojave, right? This mod adds more NPCs scattered around the place so that it doesn’t seem as lonely.
Monster Mod – because there just aren’t enough things trying to kill you out there.
Electro-city – this adds some much needed extra lighting to the Wasteland.
Interior Lighting Overhaul – makes the interior lighting much more realistic and adds working light switches.
Mojave Nights – adds a better, more realistic sky and moon at night!
Recommended Character & Weapon Mods:
Robert’s Male Body – improves the male body mesh to look more realistic.
Type3 Body and Armor replacer– improves the female body to look more realistic, and adapts almost all the armors in game to the new body type.
zzJay’s Body & Face workshop – the best body/face textures for the female Type 3 body. The mod says it requires the “Archive Invalidation Invalidated” mod but don’t download it. If you are using NMM, it is already built into the program – just find Archive Invalidation in the dropdown menu up top after you’ve installed zzJay’s body/face mod, toggle it off, toggle it on again, and you’re all set!
Project Mikoto – adds a bajillion new hairs and stuff for your character creator.
Eyes – adds nicer looking eyes in a bunch of new colors.
Fallout Character Overhaul (FCO) – this overhauls the skin, hair, and eyes of all characters in the game. Install Project Mikoto first, FCO second (make sure to select the Project Mikoto option upon installation), then Eyes (overwrite FCO with Eyes).
Niner – adds a new follower who is pretty funny, in a manic drug addict kind of way. He’s also pretty decent looking as far as men in Fallout go – install this mod before FCO and then select the “Niner” option when installing FCO to make Niner look less like a punk ass teenager and more like a grown ass sexy man.
Weapons of the New Millenia – adds a whole slew of high res guns!
Better Authority Glasses – I love to make all my followers look like badass body guards with the Authority Glasses, and the vanilla is just soooo vanilla. This is a huge improvement!
Ok, hopefully now you have all you need for a badass next-gen run of Fallout: New Vegas! If you have any other mod recommendations, let me know in comments!
Fallout: New California BETA 201, after 7 years of development by Rick Hukkanen(Lead Programmer) and Brandan Lee(Project Lead) is finally released!

A massive single player role playing game with deep character driven mechanics and branching narrative quest architecture, FNC takes you on a journey through the aftermath of the NCR-Enclave War following the end of Fallout 2 twenty years before, leading into the events that inspire Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
1. Story
Set in 2260, a crippled Enclave has just one last squadron left behind in California as their remnants journey East on the call of their President. The New California Republic has stagnated economically, their political structure wracked by deep corruption that goes to the highest office, and their economy is all but ruined.
A psychotic Raider Warlord, Juan Elsdragon, has assumed control of a vast Raider Alliance collected of the various tribes washed away by the NCR's pacification efforts, bolstered by hundreds of survivalists who resist the taxes and cultural erasure the NCR represents.
You are born sometime before this to a wasteland tribe. Orphaned and adopted by the Wasteland Scouts from Vault 18 high in the San Bernardino Mountains, you and your fellow tribal kin have been raised to be the new generation to explore the wastes beyond the great door. Unfortunately, the legendary Wasteland Scouts before you made powerful enemies, and their Vault remains locked away, hidden in their seclusion.
Until the last night of the Vault-Ball season, when you are thrust into the middle of a conflict started long before you were born..
War. War never changes.
2. Getting Started
How To Uninstall Rudy Enb
This is a mod for the PC vesrion of Fallout: New Vegas.
All you need to get started is:

5. FAQs
I. How do I install this mod?
There is a helpful guide above, it's just a quick set up process.
You need a mod manger of your choice and the 4GB Patch. Once those are installed, you're good to go. Just load FNC and follow the instructions.
Can I install it manually?
Yes, the same as any other mod. Just unzip and drag&drop the contents into your DATA folder.
Is there an Installer?
After you run your mod manager, it's as easy as an installer. Just select the file in your Package Manager and it will automatically install.
II. Does this mod require any other mods, DLCs, etc?
No. We do have a short Recommended Mods List if you want your game to look like our screenshots and videos, but those are optional.
III. How do I start New California?
Don't forget that New California is started from the New Game Menu!!
Your New Vegas save games will be totally unaffected.
IV. So, this is like what, a DLC?
More like a new campaign. New California runs in the New Vegas engine but it is not set in New Vegas (it's set in New California at a place called The Pass.) At the end we allow you to continue as the Courier (or not). We have a new worldspace not connected to the Mojave and our own independent story made from scratch. All new textures, meshes, basically a separate game.
How long is it?
How many hours? Depending on your choices and play-style, anywhere from 6-8 hours to 15-30 hours if you're a completionist, and because of there are so many branches and hidden opportunities it's extremely replayable. There are 13 endings total, many of which are radically different stories start to finish.
How big is the map?
Very large. About 2/3rds of New Vegas.
Is there voice acting?
There are 16,942 lines of dialogue. 14,877 of which are voiced by characters and non-repeating from 60 volunteer voice actors.
How many quests are there?
48. And that may be a lie, there are a lot more that simply aren't distinct because they emerge as you play. We try to document them all here.
V. Will this break my existing save game or all my mods?
No. We have A List of Incompatible Mods and it is very short. Your New Vegas save will be fine and totally unaffected. It requires starting a new game.
VI. I can't seem to get New California to start. Help?
A -- I installed everything correctly and New Vegas crashes on startup!
You sure? Check your load order.
Run like this:
FalloutNV.esm
NewCalifornia.esm
See if it runs now.
If not, you may have something else wrong with your installation of New Vegas. Check our discord Help channel.
B -- I installed everything correctly and clicked New Game and nothing happens!
Are you running on Steam?
Yes.
Check your Language Settings and make sure you're running US English.
Didn't work!
Make sure NewCalifornia.esm is in fact checked in your load order underneath FalloutNV.esm, above all other plugins, below the DLC.
It is!
Turn Archive Invalidation On and Off and On again in FOMM.
Still nothing!
Report to Discord #Help or post in the Nexus Forum.
I am using MO2, Vortex, FOMM, or NMM.
That should work on all of them.. if you followed our instructions.
Report to Discord #Help or post in the Nexus Forum.
C -- I installed everything correctly and clicked New Game, saw the video, Tackle or Dodge, and Crashed entering the Atrium!
You need the 4GB Patch if you are running Steam. The GOG.com version comes pre-patched so you shouldn't crash at all.
I installed that and it still crashed!
Install it correctly.
Oh hey, it works, thanks!
No Problem.
It did not work..
Report to the #Help channel on Discord or the Forums on Nexus.
VII. The Atrium runs at a really low FPS.. So does Union City and Athens-Tec.
Yep. We know. It sucks. We'll patch it ASAP.
#1 -- Don't look directly into the middle of the map from the Gym Hallway and it'll go away. Just get past it.
#2 -- ENB does this sometimes. Rudy ENB is better. If your PC runs New Vegas at 60fps, it'll run this okay.
#3 -- If your PC is struggling with the High Resolution Pack, step back down to the Low Res Pack.
VIII. Can I get to California from the Mojave?
No.
What if I use console commands?
Everything will break.
Can someone mod that in? I don't want to start a New Game.
FNC is almost a totally separate game, so its like asking to port your save from Mass Effect to Fallout 3.
IX. Can I get to the Mojave from California and continue my game after the ending?
Yes! At the end of our BETA 200 Testing, anyway!
For now we are in testing phase. As soon as our mod is fully tested we will turn that feature on at 1.0. We don't want you to break your New Vegas save game while we're still launching weekly and monthly updates that require restarts to take effect.
X. Is this compatible with..
Project Nevada?
Yes! I recommend it!
Solid Project?
Yes! I also recommend it!
ENBs?
Yes! Rudy ENB is what's in all our screenshots.
Keep in mind that our Fade to Black transitions don't work with ENBs, so that'll look awkward.
TTW?
Not yet. They're making a patch but it may take a long time. It's unreasonably complicated for both of our teams.
The Frontier?
Yes. You can play FNC -> FNV -> FTF in one big long save game. (The more mods you have the higher the probability of corruption.)
My Menu Replacer (DARN UI, etc)?
If you want Revelation HUD, apply this mod here!
If you delete New California -- Menus.bsa in your DATA folder, our menus from SGhi.info vanish and you're good to go.
This is also true if you just don't like our menus replacer and want to go vanilla.
This Random Body Mod?
We use Vanilla body types. If you want Big Bouncing Lizard Tits and Centaur Vaginas, that is entirely up to you my friend.
All my 5,000 Weapon Mods?
Yes. Though they may not show up in our worldspace.
All my Combat and AI mods?
Yep. Should be just fine. Report them if they cause problems.
My custom Pip-boy 7 Billion?
Yup.
Role Players Alternate Start?
NO. :p
We have a short Recommended Mods List.
And..
We have A List of Incompatible Mods.
You might want to check those or report bugs to our #public-bug-reports channel on Discord. Or in the Nexus thread.

Yes. It is very cool. You should go buy it. Tell them the sale is from Thain, with love.
XII. Why did you make this game sized mod?
We wanted to learn how to make our own games. What better way is there than to make a game sized mod first?
XIII. Is this on consol?
No.
XIV. Is this coming to Fallout 4?
No.
How hard could it be to port--
VERY. VERY HARD. It would take many years.
But Fallout 4 New Vegas did--
VERY. VERY HARD. You should try it. Good luck!

How hard could it be to port--
VERY. VERY HARD. It would take many years.
But Fallout 4 New Vegas did--
VERY. VERY HARD. You should try it. Good luck!
And don't forget that we also have a company!
New California was just a fun educational / personal project that got out of hand! :p We also have day jobs: also a career making visual effects and camera operation for games and movies.
We have a new game on the horizon too!
It'll be a top down 3D-Isometric Survival RPG set on the ruins of an alien megastructure. You start our freshly abducted from Earth with people from across time and space. You'll have to gather a tribe of fellow survivors and brave the harsh wilderness to face medieval empires and alien organisms as you build a town and send player controlled parties out on quests. A little bit Fallout 1 and 2, a little bit Civilization, a little bit Rimworld (Tynan is a hero and just released 1.0, GO GET IT ITS SO GOOD), all on Unreal Engine.
Sims 4 child pregnancy mod. I could use a couple 2D artists on the new team right now, and you can donate to our Pay-Pal to help me afford the start up expenses. We have a bunch of veterans we've worked with before that want in on this, so I need to begin crowd funding after FNC is all wrapped up so we can afford to focus just on this project.
And as always..
You can read more about our progress on the Design Documents Found Here. In the mean time, you can keep track of us on ModDB, Fallout Nexus, Facebook, and our Discord. We've got a thriving online community centered around each one.
Cheers

Credits
Major credits and thanks go out to the following for helping with this Guide:
- keithinhanoi
- Keithinhanoi is an authority on the enblocal.ini file and its functions; only second to Boris. The completeness of the Guide would not have been possible without him and his hours of research and testing.
- Aiyen
- Aiyen helped to define parameters with clarity for the Guide. Without him, the Guide wouldn't have gotten off the ground.

4 years agoI'm trying to install Rudy ENB for New Vegas but am running into a lot of problems that I'm unable to find answers for. Mainly the ENB presets don't seem to work no matter how I install them. Would anybody be able to provide me with a good tutorial or possibly walk me through it over skype or something?
Update: I have uninstalled and reinstalled my game, disabled and uninstalled every single mod, deleted and replaced all my .ini files and started with all the video settings according to the ENB install recommendations. Nothing has worked. All I get upon startup of the game is a black screen with the theme playing that I have to end-task to get rid of. I have not found any trace of this problem anywhere else even though I'm sure I'm not the only one with it. Please, if you have any idea how to help, any advice at all would be appreciated.
Specs if they are at all relevant:
GPU: GeForce GT 640 CPU: Intel Core i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz 6GB RAM Win7
